President of Ghana Insurers Association, Seth Aklasi appointed Ag. MD of Ghana Reinsurance Company

President John Mahama has appointed the President of Ghana Insurers Association, Seth Aklasi as the new acting Managing Director of Ghana Reinsurance Company PLC.

 Mr. Aklasi until his appointment was also the Managing Director of Donewell Insurance.

JOYBUSINESS understands that the appointment was made last week by the President.

Mr. Aklasi is taking over from Madam Monica Amissah, who was the Deputy Managing Director of the Ghana Reinsurance and later acted as Managing Director of the institution.   

A handing over ceremony is expected to happen in the morning of February 18, 2025.

About Mr. Aklasi

Mr. Aklasi is a seasoned business leader with 25 years of experience in finance and insurance, specializing in underwriting, risk management, reinsurance, product development, and corporate strategy.

He began his career at Enterprise Insurance Company Ghana Limited, serving as a Motor Underwriter and later as a Client Relations Officer in the Broker Unit.

In 2008, he joined International Energy Insurance (IEI) Ghana Limited as a Deputy Manager and rose through the ranks to become the Chief Operations Officer.

 

He briefly served as the Managing Director of Priority Insurance. In 2015, he was appointed Chief Executive Officer of Donewell Insurance Limited, where he led the company’s transformation, driving innovation, operational efficiency, and sustainable growth.

Expertise

Mr. Aklasi is said to be instrumental in shaping the Ghanaian insurance landscape. He has played a pivotal role in the development of the insurance industry in Ghana. He has served as Chairman of the Accident Committee of the Ghana Insurers Association (GIA) and is currently serving his second term as President of the GIA.

He has also been a two-term Executive Committee Member of the Ghana National Bureau of the ECOWAS Brown Card Scheme, serving as Vice Chairman in his second term.

 

Education

Mr. Aklasi is an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute (ACII), UK, and a Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Ghana (FCIIG).

He holds an MSc in Insurance and Risk Management from Bayes Business School (formerly known as Cass Business School), City, University of London, and a BA in Social Science from the University of Cape Coast.

He is also an alumnus of Kabore Primary School, Kpando Secondary School, Nkonya Secondary School, and Labone Secondary School.
