2019 AIO Conference in South Africa
The African Insurance Organization will hold its 46th conference and annual general assembly at Emperor’s Palace in Johannesburg, South Africa from June 8 to 13, 2019. Each year, the event attracts senior delegates from across Africa, including Ghana, and the rest of the world to discuss the most pressing issues facing the insurance industry on the continent.
Many Ghanaian insurance firms – primary insurers, reinsurers and brokers inclusive – regularly attend the annual conference which is the biggest gathering of Africa’s insurance industry each year.
Under this year’s theme,” Insurance Penetration in Africa: Insuring the Uninsured” this year’s edition will focus on insurance distribution and inclusivity across the continent.
Other topical issues o be discussed will include micro-insurance and the effects of climatic events (such as floods, droughts and wildfires) on the industry and the African economy in general.
These topics are of crucial importance to Ghanaian insurers. The framework for the facilitation and regulation of micro-insurance is one of the two key elements of the impending new Insurance Law which is currently being considered by both Parliament and cabinet.
(The other is agricultural insurance). Also, Ghanaian insurers are currently looking at stepping up their capacity for insuring natural events in the face of the recent earth tremors which occurred in some parts of southern Ghana, which re-ignited concerns about the possibility of earthquakes.
“We have managed to secure a number of highly regarded speakers panelists and facilitators from all mover Africa and beyond” enthuses AIO vice president Delphine Traore Maidou. “We have also got some high quality bookings and are very happy at the rate that seats are filling up.
As always I am sure my colleagues from across the continent will network do business and drive further cross border collaboration.”
Although the event will focus primarily on Africa specific insurance issues many of these affect and apply to other markets around the world.
The AIO was established in 1972 as a non-governmental organization recognized by many African governments. It is headquartered in Cameroun.
